Verity allows instructors to create and administer proctored assessments to test-takers, thereby safeguarding the integrity of assessments taken in their Learning Management System. To enable Verity for tests in Blackboard Original, follow the steps outlined below.
Creating a Proctored Test
To enable Verity, you must first create a test in Blackboard. Once you've created the test, you must authenticate yourself, before setting up a proctored assessment.
- Log in to Blackboard as an instructor and navigate to the course where the test is located.
- Go to Content and locate the test you want to enable Verity proctoring for. Ensure that Edit Mode is enabled in the top right corner.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to the test and select Edit the Test Options.
- Scroll down to Verity Test Proctoring Platform, select the Checkbox, and click Configure Settings.
-
Select your desired proctoring method and click Next to continue.
- Automated Proctoring (No Live): Test-takers will not be monitored during their assessment.
- Live Assessment: Proctors will monitor the test-takers during a scheduled proctoring session.
- Live Check-In: Proctors can join and view the test-taker's environment in real-time when issues are flagged.
- Live Check-In with Post-Assessment Review: Includes all features of Live Check-In. In addition, after the assessment, YuJa proctors will review the proctoring session and create additional notes that instructors can review in the Results page for a test-taker's assessment.
-
(Optional) If Live Proctoring is selected, click + Add New Session and fill in the following information for your live assessment:
- Name: Add a name for the session.
- Start/End Date and Time: Select the date and time the quiz will be available and when it will end.
- Duration: Select how much time test-takers will have to complete the quiz after they join.
- Capacity: Choose how many test-takers can register for this session.
- Assign Proctor: Choose a user in the course with at least instructor-level access to proctor the live quiz. Alternatively, select Proctoring Group if your institution is partnered with Verity’s test proctoring groups.
- Registration Window: (Optional) Set the date and time for how long the registration period of the session will be.
- Proctoring Guidelines: (Optional) Add a note for the proctor explaining the proctoring details or guidelines.
- (Optional) After creating all live sessions, click Next.
Note: If Automated Proctoring (Not Live) or Live Check-in is selected, you don't need to add a live session. -
Select a proctoring profile and click Next. If instructor or institution profiles have been created before, they will show up here. Otherwise, you can choose from the following four types of profiles:
- Standard Proctoring Profile: Provides standard proctoring settings for video, audio, screen, room scan, ID verification, and restrictions for browser tabs.
- Advanced Proctoring Profile: All proctoring and access restrictions are enforced by applying the highest level of security using the Desktop Lockdown App.
- Essential Proctoring Profile: Provides minimal proctoring settings for ID verification and recording.
- Create Your Own Configuration: Provides the user full access to configuration settings in order to apply specific access restrictions and control how assessments are monitored.
Note: If you chose a preset proctoring profile, skip to step 11.
-
Select the platform you would like to use and click Next.
- Browser Extension: Offers standard proctoring features through the Verity Browser Extension within compatible browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, and Firefox.
-
Desktop Lockdown Module: Offers additional security features that can be applied to safeguard the integrity of quizzes by installing Verity Lockdown.
- Desktop Lockdown App
- Mobile Lockdown App: If selected, only standard proctoring features will be available to allow assessments to be taken on the Mobile Lockdown App.
- Chromebook Lockdown App: If selected, test-takers on ChromeOS must use a device with a managed guest session.
-
Enable proctoring configurations for each category and click Next.
Note: Learn more about Verity's configurations.
-
(Optional) Select test-takers to add accommodations, then click Next to continue.
-
Review your proctoring settings and click Confirm.
Note: You cannot change proctoring configurations using a preset proctoring profile. If you would like to choose specific restrictions, please create a custom proctoring profile instead.
If you created a Live Proctor quiz, test-takers must register for a session. Once quizzes are completed, you can review them by accessing the Verity Results table.
