The Video Platform's Accessibility interface provides Administrators with the ability to access both Auto Captioning and Human Captioning Users, set Permissions, and review Human and Auto Caption Requests. In addition, the Accessibility Dashboard provides access to Accessibility Validation options and the ability to create an Auto-Captioning Dictionary.
Understanding the Accessibility Dashboard
The Accessibility Dashboard provides access to a range of information regarding both Auto Captioning and Human Captioning. Auto Captioning provides editable, computer-generated captions available for both captured and uploaded content. Human Captioning consists of human-generated captioning provided by YuJa Pro Captioning, 3Play Media, Rev Media, and AST CaptionSync.
Administrators can review both Human Caption Requests and Auto Caption Requests. All Human Captioning Requests are accessible, as well as the past month of Auto Caption Requests. Reports can be downloaded for review and are sent to your email with a link that expires after 24 hours.
Setting Permissions in the Accessibility Interface
Permissions to access and use both Auto Captioning and Human Captioning can be set through the Accessibility interface. The method is mostly the same for both. Administrators can modify the Human Captioning to require approval before being captioned.
- Click on Edit in the Auto Captioning or Human Captioning Users boxes.
- Review Current Permissions; you may delete Permissions by clicking the X icon.
- Add Permissions by selecting Role Based or User Based. Role Based permissions enable you to allow permissions to All Students, All Instructors, or Administrators. You may also Add Permissions for individual users, where appropriate, and select if Required Approval for Human Captions is needed.
- Click Add Permission to complete your changes. Save when finished.
Using Accessibility Validation Export
Accessibility Validation Export provides a .csv spreadsheet of accessibility and copyright weaknesses in media content included in the Video Platform. This is available to IT Managers from the Accessibility Dashboard.
- Click Missing Captions to download a .csv file of all media content without captioning.
- Select Missing Transcripts to download a .csv file of all media content without transcripts.
- Choose Accessibility Review for a .csv file of media content marked in need of Accessibility Review. This can be chosen on the Details page for the individual media file, available through the Media Library.
- Select Copyright Review for a .csv file of media content marked in need of Copyright Review. This can be chosen on the Details page for the individual media file, available through the Media Library.
- Use Filter Copyright to review videos associated with a specific copyright; choose the desired copyright from the dropdown menu.
Content Creators and Administrators can manage accessibility for individual media files from the Media Details pane.
Choosing Caption Settings
Captioning Settings allow IT Managers to make decisions about default captioning, Auto Caption Models and to create an Auto-Captioning Dictionary.
- Select None, Auto Caption or Human Caption as the Default Captioning for Uploads. Other options may still be selected during the upload process if allowed. (If None is selected for Default Captioning for Uploads, a message window will pop-up when users upload media prompting the users if they would like to Auto-Caption the media).
- Select None or Auto Caption as the Default Captioning for Proctoring Sessions.
- Choose the desired Auto Caption Model. Model A provides better results in large lecture halls and other spaces in which the microphone may be further from the speaker's mouth.
- Select the checkbox to Enable profanity filter for auto-captioning. To learn more about what words or phrases are flagged by the profanity filter, click here.
- Add words to the Dictionary by clicking and typing the desired word then clicking Enter to add the word. To learn more about how to add words or phrases to the Dictionary, click here.
- Select the X next to a word to remove it from the Dictionary.
- Choose Save to save your changes to the Dictionary.
