The Video Platform offers access to a number of different human-based captioning services, including YuJa Pro Captioning, 3Play Media, Rev Media, Cielo24, and AST CaptionSync for full ADA compliance, in addition to high-quality automated captioning.
Enabling External Captioning
External Human Captioning services can be set up by an Administrator in the Video Platform.
- Go to the Admin Panel from the Main Menu.
- Choose Integrations from the sidebar.
- Select the desired external caption service from the Select Integration drop-down menu. The Platform supports 3Play Media, Rev Media, Cielo24, and AST CaptionSync.
- Click Add New Caption Provider.
- Choose your desired Turnaround Time Options. Options selected are the only ones available to Content Owners.
- Enter your account information to establish and enable human captioning for your institution and click Save.
Accessing External Captioning for Single Videos
Once enabled, Human Captions are available through the Captioning options for the individual video.
- Access Human Captioning by navigating to Manage Media at the top of the screen.
- Choose the desired media and select More... from the upper right corner of the thumbnail and, from the Details page, choose Accessibility.
- Click on Human Caption. Your default Human Caption service will appear if you have permission to request Human Captioning.
- Select Send Request. The status of Sent Captions may be tracked through the Admin Panel's Accessibility tab.
A Status Message will appear for Human Caption Request that may need approval by Admins.
Accessing External Captioning for Multiple Videos
Users can also request Human Captions for multiple videos by utilizing Bulk Human Caption.
- Navigate to Manage Media at the top of the screen. Choose My Media or select the desired Channel.
- Choose ctrl-click to add media one selection at a time, or use shift-click to select an entire section of content. You may also navigate to More Actions and choose Select All to choose all content within the folder.
- Once you have selected your media, click More Actions at the top of the screen, and then click Select Bulk Human Caption.
- Your default Human Caption service will appear if you have permission to request Human Captioning.
- Select the Caption Language, and select the Turnaround Time.
- To finalize the request, click Send Request. The status of pending Human Captions may be tracked through the Admin Panel’s Accessibility tab.

Enabling Human Captioning Permissions and Default Providers
Individual users will need an Administrator to allow access to Human Captioning Services.
- Navigate to the Admin Panel from the Main Menu. Choose Accessibility from the left-side menu.
- Choose Edit under Human Captioning Users.
- View all users with current Human Captioning Permissions.
- Select a default Human Captioning Provider. This is the provider that will be available to your allowed users.
- Add users individually or by Role. For instance, all Administrators might have access to Human Captioning.
Enabling Automatic Course-Level Human Captioning
Instructors may set up their course to automatically send videos for human captioning.
- Navigate to the Courses & Groups tab from the Main Menu.
- Select your course from the Course Navigation menu.
- Click Settings.
- Check the box to Request human captioning for all videos published to the Media Channel associated with this course.
- Select the Caption language you'd like to request for all videos and the Turnaround Time for videos to be captioned.
- Click Save to finalize your settings and enable automatic human captioning for your course.
Managing Human-Based Captioning Requests
If enabled, Administrators can receive email notifications for all Human-Based Captioning requests. Once a Content Creator sends a Human-Based Captioning request, Administrators will receive an email notification of the request.
