Proctoring profiles are a set of proctoring configurations that you can create and use repeatedly across multiple assessments to ensure consistency and efficiency. In Verity, you can leverage Verity's default proctoring profiles, or create your own profiles that can be saved and used later. In this guide, we will walk you through understanding default proctoring profiles, creating your own proctoring profile, and how to customize proctoring configurations while using a proctoring profile.
Default Proctoring Profiles
There are three default proctoring profiles that you can use in Verity: Standard Proctoring Profile, Advanced Proctoring Profile, and Essential Proctoring Profile. You can still customize restrictions for these profiles to suit your needs if you choose to use them for your assessment. To customize your proctoring configurations after selecting a profile, refer to Customizing Your Proctoring Configurations While Using a Default Profile. Standard Proctoring Profile
The Standard Proctoring profile applies standard restrictions to your assessment to help ensure academic integrity while providing test-takers with a level of flexibility.
The following restrictions are automatically applied in a Standard Proctoring Profile:
Platform:
- Browser Extension: The assessment will be proctored via the Verity browser extension. Test-takers must download the extension before they can start the assessment.
Recording:
- Record Video: Test-taker video will be recorded, and test-takers will be allowed to continue their assessment even if they do not enable their camera.
- Record Audio: Test-taker audio will be recorded, and test-takers will be allowed to continue their assessment even if they do not enable their microphone.
- Record Screen: Test-taker screen activity will be recorded.
- Room Scan: Test-takers must provide a 360-degree view of their environment prior to taking the assessment.
Verification:
- ID Verification: Test-takers must capture and upload a valid ID and an image of their face prior to the assessment for identification purposes.
Additional Restrictions:
- Tab Restrictions: Test-takers cannot open new tabs, except for permitted websites.
Advanced Proctoring Profile
The Advanced Proctoring Profile applies the highest level of security by enforcing proctoring and access restrictions.
The following restrictions are automatically applied in an Advanced Proctoring Profile:
Platform:
- Verity Desktop Lockdown App: The assessment will be proctored via the Verity Desktop Lockdown App. Test-takers must install the app before they can start the assessment.
Recording:
- Record Video: Test-takers must enable their camera, and their video will be recorded.
- Record Audio: Test-takers must enable their microphone, and audio will be recorded.
- Record Screen: Test-taker screen activity will be recorded.
- Room Scan: Test-takers must provide a 360-degree view of their environment prior to taking the assessment.
Verification:
- ID Verification: Test-takers must capture and upload a valid ID and an image of their face prior to the assessment for identification purposes.
Additional Restrictions:
- Disable Clipboard: Test-takers' System Clipboard will be disabled across all applications and web pages to prevent copy and pasting.
- Disable Handoff: Test-takers using Apple devices must turn off the Handoff feature on their device.
- Block Virtual Machines: Test-takers cannot open their assessment inside a virtual machine.
- Manage Desktop Applications: All other applications on the test-takers' desktop will be blocked, and test-takers will not be allowed to continue the assessment until the applications are closed.
- Tab Restrictions: Test-takers cannot open new tabs, except for permitted websites.
- Only One Screen: Test-takers must only use one screen, and additional screens and monitors must be disconnected.
Essential Proctoring Profile
The Essential Proctoring Profile applies a minimal proctoring configuration that prioritizes ID verification and recording to suit simple assessment needs.
The following restrictions are automatically applied in an Essential Proctoring Profile:
Platform:
- Browser Extension: The assessment will be proctored via the Verity browser extension. Test-takers must download the extension before they can start the assessment.
Recording:
- Record Video: Test-taker video will be recorded, and test-takers will be allowed to continue their assessment even if they do not enable their camera.
- Record Audio: Test-taker audio will be recorded, and test-takers will be allowed to continue their assessment even if they do not enable their microphone.
- Record Screen: Test-taker screen activity will be recorded.
Verification:
- ID Verification: Test-takers must capture and upload a valid ID and an image of their face prior to the assessment for identification purposes.
Additional Restrictions:
- Only One Screen: Test-takers must only use one screen, and additional screens and monitors must be disconnected.
Creating a Default Proctoring Profile
You can create default proctoring profiles to use for assessments across your institution.
- Customized proctoring profiles will appear in the Profile tab in Verity's Proctoring Configurations. To see your profiles, make sure that you have created an Institution-Wide Profile. For more assistance, please refer to Creating an Institution-Wide Profile. After your Institution-Wide Profile has been created, you can access it in the Profile step while you're configuring your Verity Assessment, as shown below.
- (Optional) You can also set your profile as a Designated Institution Profile, or a Default Institution Profile.
- A Designated Institution Profile is a mandatory profile that must be applied to all assessments in your institution.
- A Default Institution Profile is a profile that will be automatically applied to all assessments in your institution.

Customizing Your Proctoring Configurations While Using a Default Profile
You can still customize your proctoring configurations when you select a default profile. Follow the steps below to create a proctored assessment that suits your proctoring needs.
- Configure your assessment until you reach the Profile step in Verity Configurations, then select your desired profile.
- If you select a predefined profile, Verity will automatically direct you to the Resources page. To customize other restrictions, click Back to navigate to your desired category.
- To enable or disable a certain proctoring restriction, click on the toggle and verify that the state has switched to "Enabled" or "Disabled". To proceed to the next page, click Next.
- When you're happy with your configurations, click Save to save your proctoring settings, or Save and Publish to publish your proctored assessment with your configured settings.
