When setting up a proctored assessment with the Verity Desktop Lockdown App, you can add a list of blocked applications to prevent test-takers from opening them during the proctored assessments. You can select the application from the default list or add additional applications based on your proctoring needs.
Creating a Blocked Applications List
You can create a blocked application list when setting up a proctored assessment on the Verity Platform or your LMS (Blackboard SaaS, Blackboard Ultra, Canvas, D2L Brightspace, Moodle). The Block Applications proctoring feature is only available when you set up the assessment with the Verity Desktop Lockdown App.
- When creating a proctored assessment, go to the Configuration step in the Setup Proctoring window.

- Click View List.
- Click the Minus (-) icon to remove the application from the default list, or click the Plus (+) icon to add applications to your blocked application list.
Note: Don't see your application? Learn more about adding additional applications to the list for your Windows or Mac devices. - Click Save.
- (Optional) If you want to allow test-takers to continue with the assessment even if they opened a blocked application, check the Bypass Mode checkbox.
- Click Next to continue with your proctoring setup.
Adding Other Applications to the Blocked Application List Using Windows Devices
When creating a block application list for your proctored assessment, you can add other applications to the list if they are not listed by default.
- After enabling the Block Applications feature, click Add Here within the Block Application List window.
- You will then need to know the exact name of the application as it appears in the install directory. In the search bar beside the Windows icon on your desktop, enter the application you want to block.
- From the application panel, click Open file location.
- Within your File Explorer, right-click the application name and select Show more options from the right-click menu.
- Select Open file location.
- On the highlighted row, copy the exact application name and go back to Verity.
- Paste the application name into the Add Application window.
- Click Add.
- Check that your application is added to the Blocked Application List panel.
- Click Save.
- (Optional) If you want to allow test-takers to continue with the assessment even if they have opened a blocked application, check the Bypass Mode checkbox.
- Click Next to continue with your proctoring setup.
Adding Other Applications to the Blocked Application List Using Mac Devices
When creating a block application list for your proctored assessment, you can add other applications to the list if they are not listed by default.
- After enabling the Block Applications feature, click Add Here within the Block Application List window.
- You will then need to know the exact name of the application as it appears in the install directory. Click the Finder icon from your navbar.
- Select the Applications folder from the side navbar.
- Locate the application you want to block.
- Right-click on the application's icon and select Get Info from the context menu.
- Copy the exact application name from the Name & Extension field.
- Go back to Verity and paste the application name into the Add Application window.
- Click Add.
- Check that your application is added to the Blocked Application List panel.
- Click Save and continue with your proctoring setup.
- (Optional) If you want to allow test-takers to continue with the assessment even if they have opened a blocked application, check the Bypass Mode checkbox.
- Click Next to continue with your proctoring setup.
