You can create a Branching Video to design a more engaging and interactive learning experience. In the Branching Video, you can set Branch Points at specific timestamps where viewers will see new video options appear. At these Branch Points, the viewer can click to watch another video or keep watching the current one. You can guide viewers through a specific sequence of videos by providing a single video option at each point, or by providing multiple video options where viewers can choose the content that is most relevant to them.
Before You Start
Upload or add your videos to Lumina. You can only create Branching Videos with non-archived videos that are already in Lumina.
Understanding the Branching Video Editor
A Branching Video is composed of Lumina videos, Branch Points, branches, and a Starting Point. You can use the Branching Video Editor to create a Branching Video.
- Branch Point: The specific timestamp where viewers will see up to three video options appear. In the Branching Video Editor, it is represented by the + button.
- Branch: The video options the viewer can choose. In the Branching Video Editor, it is represented by the arrow.
- Starting Point: The first video in the Branching Video.
- Zoom In: Click the Zoom In button to view Branch Points and video details.
- Zoom Out: Click the Zoom Out button to create space for more videos to be added.
- Search Bar: Enter the name of the Lumina video you want to add.
- Sidebar: Click the Expand Sidebar button to view the Lumina Media Library or click the Collapse Sidebar button to hide the Lumina Media Library.
Creating a Branching Video
You can create up to three Branch Points per video and specify the exact timestamp for each branch. Each Branch Point can lead up to three video options branches. Viewers can then choose to navigate to a new video option or continue watching the current video.
- Log in to Lumina.
- Click Manage Media.
- Click Branching Video. The Branching Video Editor will open.
- Enter a title for the Branching Video.
- From the sidebar, drag and drop or double-click a video to add it to the Branching Video. If you do not see the video you want, enter the video title in the Search Bar or click Load More.
- Repeat step 5 to add all the videos you want to add to the Branching Video.
- Drag and move each video in the order you want.
Note: You can continue to drag and move each video as you edit the Branching Video. - In the first video, click the More Actions button > Set as Starting Point.
- To create a Branch Point, hover on the video and select one of the three circular buttons that appear. The Create Branch Point window will open.
- Enter the Start Time and End Time that you want the video option branch to appear at.
- Click Create. The Branch Point will appear with its timestamp and + button.
- Click and drag the + button to another video to complete the branch. An arrow will appear to show the newly created branch.
- Click the newly created arrow. The Connect Video window will appear.
- In the Button Name field, enter the text for the video option shown to viewers.
- Select one of the Video End Behavior radio buttons:
- End Branching Video: After the video ends and there are no further video option branches, the Branching Video will end.
- Go back to <video name>: After the video ends and there are no further video option branches, the previous video will play again.
- Click Apply.
- Repeat steps 12 to 16 to create up to three video option branches per video.
- Repeat steps 9 to 17 to create all the Branch Points and video option branches you want.
Note: Set a unique Start Time and End Time for each Branch Point to make sure they don't overlap. - (Optional) To preview the sequence of videos, click Preview.
- Click Save.
Viewing a Branching Video
Once a Branching Video is created, it will be stored in the Branching Videos folder.
- Log in to Lumina.
- Click Manage Media.
- In the sidebar, select the Branching Videos folder.
- Go the Branching Video you want.
- Hover over it and select Play.
Editing a Branching Video
You can delete videos, Branch Points, or branches, and edit timestamps in existing Branching Videos.
- Log in to Lumina.
- Click Manage Media.
- In the sidebar, select the Branching Videos folder.
- Go the Branching Video you want.
- Hover over it and select Edit.
- Make one or more edits:
- Delete a video: Click the More Actions button in the video > Delete.
- Delete a Branch Point: Hover over the timestamp of the Branch Point and click the Delete button.
- Delete a branch: Hover over the circle at the end of the arrow and click the X button.
- Edit a timestamp: Hover over the timestamp of the Branch Point and click the Edit button. Enter the new Start Time and End Time, and then click Apply.
- Delete a video: Click the More Actions button in the video > Delete.
- Click Save.
