This document provides instructions on integrating the YuJa Enterprise Video Platform into your Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS). If you have any questions regarding any steps in this process, please contact your dedicated Customer Success Manager. To perform the integration, you will need a YuJa Key, Shared Secret, and Zone URL. These items will be provided in your Zone Provisioning document. The Blackboard Learn Building Block Plugin file will also be provided by your Customer Success Manager.
Configuring the Video Platform LTI Using Building Blocks
Adding the Video Platform as a Global Tool Provider
Adding the Video Platform as a Global Tool Provider allows instructors to conveniently link to the Video Platform from their course site. Follow these steps to manage the default settings for LTI Tool Providers. You can override these settings on an individual basis as needed.
- Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Building Blocks → Building Blocks.
- Select LTI Tool Providers.
- Select Register Provider Domain.
- Under Provider Domain Status, enter the information as followed.
- Provide Domain: Your YuJa Zone URL provided in your Zone Provisioning document - an example would be evergreen.yuja.com.
- Provider Domain Status: Approved.
- Under Default Configuration, enter the information as followed.
- Default Configuration: Set Globally.
- Tool Provider Key: YuJa Key provided in your Zone Provisioning document.
- Tool Provider Secret: Shared Secret provided in your Zone Provisioning document.
- Under Institution Policies, enter the information as followed.
- Send User Data: Send user data over any connection.
- User Fields to Send: Role in Course, Name, and Email Address.
- Show User Acknowledgment Message: No.
- Select Submit to save your building block.
- Select Manage Global Properties.
- Under Feature Availability, enter the information as followed.

- Enabled in Courses: Yes.
- Enabled in Organizations: Yes.
- Creation of Tool Provider Links: Allow links to any tool provider, but require approval for each new provider.
- Allow configured tool providers to post grades: Yes.

- Under Default Configuration, enter the information as followed.
- Send User Data: Send user data over only SSL.
- User Fields to Send: Role in Course, Name, and Email Address.
- Show User Acknowledgement Message: select Yes or No to choose whether a user acknowledgment message displays when the user clicks a Learning Tool link.
- If you selected Yes to Show User Acknowledgment Message, enter the desired user acknowledgment message in the Message Text field.
- Click Submit.
Adding an LTI Placement for the Video Platform
LTI placement, including a name and link, makes it easy for end-users to find and use the Video Platform. Although it is not required, managing the placement of the tool is strongly recommended.
- Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Building Blocks → Building Blocks.
- Select LTI Tool Providers.
- Click the down arrow to the right of your YuJa building block to access a drop-down menu of available actions.
- Select Manage Placements.
- Select Create Placement.
- Under Placement Information, enter the information as followed.
- Label: YuJa.
- Description: enter an optional description that will be visible to Students in their Tools menu and invisible to Instructors.
- Handle: enter a single word unique identifier to use as the database entry.
- Availability: Yes.
- Type: Student Tool.
- Icon: click Browse to add an icon for the YuJa tool which can be downloaded from https://<YOUR_YUJA_DOMAIN>/P/LTI/Blackboard/yuja_basic.png
- In the Tool Provider URL, enter https://<YOUR_YUJA_DOMAIN>/LMSEntry.jsp
- Click Submit.
Installing the Video Platform in All Courses or Select Courses
After completing the section labeled Configuring the Video Platform LTI Using Building Blocks, there are two LMS installation options that you can choose from:
- Enable YuJa in Future Courses - This enables the Video Platform by-default in all future Blackboard Learn courses. This does not apply to already existing courses in Blackboard. To perform this, see the section labeled Installing the Video Platform for Future Courses.
- Enable YuJa in Select Courses – This enables instructors and administrators to add the Video Platform to specific courses including existing courses in Blackboard. To perform this, see the section labeled Installing Video Platform for Select Courses.
Installing the Video Platform for Future Courses
- Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Courses → Course Settings.
- Select Course Menu and Structures.
- Hover over the + icon to open a drop-down menu and select Tool Link.
- Enter the information as followed.
- Name: YuJa
- Type: select your YuJa building block.
- Available to Users: check the box off.
- Select Submit.
Installing the Video Platform for Select Courses
- Log in to Blackboard as an Instructor and select the course you wish to extend the Video Platform to.
- Turn on Course Editing.
- From the Navigation panel, hover over the + icon and select Tool Link.
- Enter the information as followed.
- Name: YuJa
- Type: select your YuJa building block.
- Available to Users: check the box off.
- Select Submit.
Accessing the Video Platform from Blackboard Learn
The Video Platform will provision the group space with the information provided by the LTI, including course name, user name, user roles, and permissions within the course.
- Log in to Blackboard as an Instructor or Student and select the course that the Video Platform has been extended to.
- From the Navigation panel, select YuJa.
- Confirm you can access the Video Platform from Blackboard.
Installing the YuJa Media Chooser for Blackboard Learn
This section provides instructions on integrating the Video Platform's Media Chooser into Blackboard using Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). This section assumes you have already the section labeled Configuring the Video Platform LTI Using Building Blocks.
Configuring the YuJa Media Chooser Extension in Blackboard Learn
- Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Building Blocks → Building Blocks.
- Select Installed Tools.
- Select Upload Building Blocks.
- Click Browse.
- Find and upload the Blackboard Learn Building Block Plugin file (.war) provided by your Customer Success Manager.
- Select Approve to approve the Blackboard Learn Building Block Plugin privileges.
- Once your upload is complete, select Return.
- On the Return page, find the YuJa Media Chooser.
- Click the down arrow beside the YuJa Media Chooser to access a drop-down menu of available actions and select Settings.
- Select Settings.
- Enter the information as followed.
- Enter Consumer Key: enter the YuJa Key provided in your Zone Provisioning document.
- Enter Organization URL: enter the Zone URL provided in your Zone Provisioning document.
- Enable editing media before embedding: enabled.
- Select Update Settings.
- Access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Tools and Utilities → Tools.
- Navigate to YuJa Media Chooser and enter the information as followed.
- Course Tools: Availability to On and Scope of Change to New and existing courses.
- Organization Tool: set Availability to On and Scope of Change to New and existing organizations.
- Content Type: set Availability to On and Scope of Change to New and existing courses and organizations.
- Click Submit.
Using the YuJa Media Chooser Plugin in Discussions
- Log in to Blackboard as an Instructor and select the course you extended the Video Platform to.
- Select Discussions from the left side Navigation panel.
- Select Create Forum.
- From the Description field, select Mashups then YuJa Media Chooser.
- From the YuJa Media Chooser, you can post videos, upload media, or even create a new recording for your associated YuJa account. Select the video you would like to post to Blackboard from the provided list.
- Select Insert Videos then select Submit to submit your Forum.
Using the YuJa Media Chooser Plugin in Contents
- Log in to Blackboard as an Instructor and select the course you extended the Video Platform to.
- Select Content from the left side Navigation panel.
- Turn on Edit Mode.
- Select Build Content and select YuJa Media Chooser.
- From the YuJa Media Chooser, you can post videos, upload media, or even create a new recording for your associated YuJa account. Select the video you would like to post to Blackboard from the provided list.
- Select Insert Videos.
Optional - Advanced Configuration for Blackboard Assignments
For organizations using the Video Platform within Blackboard Assignments, we recommend adding a policy file for the Video Platform. Blackboard keeps a whitelist of allowed iFrame sources and initially, the Video Platform is not included in this white list.

- Obtain a policy file from YuJa by navigating to the following URL and download the XML file: https://<YOUR_ZONE_URL>/Dashboard/LTI/BlackBoard/PolicyFiles/yuja-policy.xml
- Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Security → Safe HTML Filters.
- Select Safe HTML Filter for Content Editor.
- Select Upload.
- Select Browse, upload the XML file and select Submit.
- Click the down arrow besides yuja-policy.xml to access a drop-down menu of available actions then select Activate.
Optional - Advanced Configuration for Adding the YuJa Media Library Module
This section assumes you have completed the section labeled Configuring the Video Platform LTI Using Building Blocks and Installing the YuJa Media Chooser for Blackboard Learn.
- Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Building Blocks → Building Blocks.
- Select LTI Tool Providers.
- Click the down arrow to the right of your YuJa building block to access a drop-down menu of available actions.
- Select Manage Placements.
- Click the down arrow to the right of your YuJa placement to access a drop-down menu of available actions.
- Select Edit.
- In the Tool Provide Customer Parameters field, enter override_lti_landing_page=media Library then select Submit.
- Navigate to My Institutions.
- Select Add Module.
- In the Search field, enter YuJa and select Go.
- Select Add to add the YuJa Module.
- Navigate to the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Communities → Tabs and Modules.
- Select Modules.
- Click the down arrow to the right of your YuJa Module module to access a drop-down menu of available actions
- Select Edit Properties.
- Under General Properties, enter the information as followed.
- Title: enter the most accurate title for YuJa used based on your organization's branding.
- Description: enter a description for the module.
- Select Submit.
- Optional - Click the down arrow to the right of your YuJa Module module to access a drop-down menu of available actions and select Edit Contents to change the text that is displayed in the module.
Optional - Gradebook Integration and Video Analytics Tracking for the YuJa Media Chooser using Content Item Message
Content Item Message (CIM) is a protocol that enables LTI-based tools to pass back authentication information for, among embedded videos and quizzes, among other things. Within Blackboard, CIM can be used to embed content using a specified Blackboard-defined CIM workflow. Videos and quizzes posted to Blackboard using the Blackboard CIM workflow will be able to track analytics and sync grade results between the YuJa Grade Book and Blackboard Full Grade Center.
Configuring the CIM-Based YuJa Media Chooser
This section assumes you have completed the section labeled Configuring the Video Platform LTI Using Building Blocks.
- Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
- Navigate to Building Blocks → Building Blocks.
- Select LTI Tool Providers.
- Click the down arrow to the right of your YuJa building block to access a drop-down menu of available actions.
- Select Manage Placements.
- Select Create Placement.
- Under Placement Information, enter the information as followed.
- Label: YuJa Media Chooser CIM.
- Handle: YuJa Media Chooser CIM.
- Availability: Yes.
- Type: Content-Item Message.
In some instances of Blackboard, this placement type will be labeled Supports Deep Linking. DO NOT select Placement allows grading.
- In the Tool Provider URL, enter https://<YOUR_YUJA_DOMAIN>/LMSEntry.jsp.
- Click Submit.
Embedding a YuJa Video Using the CIM-Based YuJa Media Chooser
After installing the CIM-Based YuJa Media Chooser, you can upload media using the Blackboard CIM-specific workflow to track video analytics.
- Log in to Blackboard as an Instructor and access any Blackboard course.
- Select Content from the left side Navigation panel.
- Turn on Edit Mode.
- Select Build Content and select YuJa Media Chooser CIM.
- Select the media file you would like to embed in Blackboard.
- Confirm that your media has been added to Blackboard's Content page.
Embedding a Video Quiz Using the CIM-Based YuJa Media Chooser
After installing the CIM-Based YuJa Media Chooser, you can upload a YuJa Video Quiz using the Blackboard CIM-specific workflow to track video quiz grades in Blackboard's Full Grade Center.
- Log in to Blackboard as an Instructor and access any Blackboard course.
- Select Content from the left side Navigation panel.
- Turn on Edit Mode.
- Select Build Content and select YuJa Media Chooser CIM.
- Select Quizzes to view a list of video quizzes you have access to.
- Select the video quiz you want to make available in your Blackboard course and confirm that your video quiz has been added to Blackboard's Content page.
Taking a Video Quiz Using the CIM-Based YuJa Media Chooser
Once the video quiz is inserted into the Blackboard Content page, grades will automatically sync once students complete the video quiz. Below is the workflow that students should follow to ensure video quiz grades are properly synced with Blackboard's Full Grade Center.
- Log in to Blackboard as a Student and access the course where the video quiz has been posted.
- Select Content from the left side Navigation panel.
- Select the video quiz and submit all responses until completion.
- Click Submit to submit the video quiz.
