Integrating the YuJa Enterprise Video Platform into Blackboard Learn Using LTI 1.3

This document provides instructions on integrating the YuJa Enterprise Video Platform into your Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) through LTI 1.3. If you have any questions regarding any steps in this process, please contact your dedicated Customer Success Manager. To perform the integration, you will need a Key, Shared Secret, Zone URL, and Client ID, which will be provided in your Zone Provisioning document.

Configuring LTI 1.3 for the Video Platform

  1. Log in to Blackboard as an Admin and access the System Admin area.
  2. Select LTI Tool Providers.
  3. Select Register LTI 1.3.
  4. Within the Client ID field, paste the Client ID provided by your Customer Success Manager.
  5. Take note and copy the pre-populated Deployment ID, Initiate Login URL, Tool Redirect URL, and JWKS URL.
  6. Under Tool Status, select Approved.
  7. Under Tool Provider Custom Parameters, enter the following:
    • blackboard_course_previous_context_ids=$Context.id.history 
    • lis_person_sourcedid=@X@user.id@X@
    • lti_login_id=@X@user.id@X@
  8. Make sure to check the following boxes and ensure Allow grade service access is set to Yes.
  9. Select Submit.

Adding the LTI 1.3 Placement for the Video Platform

LTI placement, including a name and link, makes it easy for end-users to find and use the Video Platform. Although it is not required, managing the placement of this tool is strongly recommended. 

  1. While in the LTI Tool Providers menu, click on the drop-down arrow to the right of your YuJa 1.3 LTI Tool to access a drop-down menu of available actions. 
  2. Click Manage Placements.

  3. Select Create Placement.
  4. Input the Placement Information as follows:
    • Label: YuJa Video Platform
    • Handle: YuJa Video Platform
    • Type: Course Tool, Student and Non-student
    • Tool Provider URL: https://<Your_YuJa_Domain>/LTI3Entry.jsp
  5. Select Submit.

Adding Deep Linking Placement for Video Quizzes and Analytics 

You will need to add a second placement once LTI 1.3 for the Video Platform is installed to allow Deep Linking Placement. This allows users to publish their videos and video quizzes into their Blackboard courses.

  1. While in Manage Placements for <Your_YuJa_Domain>, select Create Placement.
  2. Input the Placement information as follows:
    • Label: YuJa Video Quizzes and Analytics
    • Handle: YuJa Video Quizzes and Analytics
    • Type: Course content tool, Supports deep linking

      Note: Do not select the option for Allows.

    • Tool Provider URL: https://<Your_YuJa_Domain>/LTI3Entry.jsp
  3. Select Submit.

Integrating Blackboard Learn into the YuJa Enterprise Video Platform

Once the registration and placement information is configured in Blackboard, the Zone Administrator will need to copy the API Configuration keys into the Admin Panel. 

  1. Log into the Video Platform as an Administrator.
  2. Go to the Admin Panel >> Integrations.
  3. Under Select an API to Configure, select LMS via LTI 1.3.
  4. Under User Role Mapping >> Choose an LMS, select Blackboard.

  5. Navigate to API Configuration in Integration.

  6. Input the fields as follows and ensure that there are no spelling mistakes, extra symbols, or spaces.
    • ISS: https://blackboard.com

    • OIDC: https://developer.blackboard.com/api/v1/gateway/oidcauth
    • JWKS Endpoint: <Refer to your Zone Provisioning document>
    • OAuth 2 Token: https://developer.blackboard.com/api/v1/gateway/oauth2/jwttoken
    • Deployment ID: Refer to step 5 in Configuring LTI 1.3 for the Video Platform.
  7. If your institution does NOT have a vanity URL, proceed to the next section of this guide. If your institution does have a vanity URL, click Add Configuration to add a second API configuration.
  8. Follow the instructions below, and click Save, located at the top of the page, once done.
    • ISS: https://blackboard.com
    • Client ID: <Refer to your Zone Provisioning document>
    • OIDC: https://developer.blackboard.com/api/v1/gateway/oidcauth
    • JWKS Endpoint: <Refer to your Zone Provisioning document>
    • OAuth 2 Token: https://developer.blackboard.com/api/v1/gateway/oauth2/jwttoken
    • Deployment ID: Refer to step 5 in Configuring LTI 1.3 for the Video Platform. If entering multiple IDs, separate each by a single comma. 
Note: When filling out the API Configuration fields, please ensure that there are no spelling mistakes, extra symbols, or spaces.

Testing a Basic LTI Launch in Blackboard

Once the LTI 1.3 placements are added, and the API information is inserted in the Admin Panel, we will then need to confirm that the LTI launch works properly.

  1. Log into Blackboard as an Instructor of any course.
  2. Turn on Course Editing.

  3. Hover over the plus (+) icon and select Course Link.

  4. In Location, browse and choose the value that was given in the Label field from Adding the LTI 1.3 Placement for the Video Platform (Step 4).
  5. Choose Available to Users.
  6. Select Submit.

  7. Click on the LTI link to authenticate into the Video Platform.

Using The YuJa Media Chooser with Gradebook Sync

Content Item Message is a protocol that enables LTI-based tools to pass back authentication information for embedded videos and quizzes, among other things. Within Blackboard, CIM can be used to embed content using a specified Blackboard-defined CIM workflow. Videos and quizzes posted to Blackboard using the Blackboard CIM workflow will be able to track analytics and sync grade results between the Grade Book and Blackboard Full Grade Center.

Embedding a Video Using the Deep Linking Placement

  1. Login to Blackboard as an Instructor of any course.
  2. Go to the Content/Lessons section of any course.
  3. Click Build Content.
  4. Select the name of the CIM-Deep Linking Placement. 

  5. Once you have selected the placement, it will open the Media Chooser that supports Deep Linking, where you can select the video or Video Quiz to sync quiz grades with Blackboard's Full Grade Center.

Taking a Video Quiz in Blackboard

Once the Video Quiz is inserted into the Blackboard Content item, grades will automatically sync once students complete the quiz. Below is the workflow for students to complete, which will ensure grades are properly synced.

  1. Log in to Blackboard with a user who has access to your video quiz.
  2. Open the Course menu.
  3. Navigate to your video quiz.
  4. Select the video quiz and submit all responses until completion.

Reviewing Video Quiz Grades in Blackboard Grade Center

  1. Login into Blackboard as an Instructor of your course and select Grade Center.
  2. Select Full Grade Center.  
  3. The grades for the Video Quiz will be recorded in your Blackboard Grade Book.
