Admins can integrate SmartSpeaker into their Blackboard Ultra Learning Management System (LMS). Before integrating SmartSpeaker, please ensure that you have full access to Blackboard as an admin. If you have any questions about the steps in this guide, please contact your dedicated Account Manager.
Adding SmartSpeaker to Blackboard
Before adding SmartSpeaker, please ensure you have received a Client ID from your Account Manager.
- Log in to Blackboard Ultra as an admin.
- In the side navbar, select Admin.
- In the Integrations section, select LTI Tool Providers.
- Select the Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool tab.
- In the Client ID field, enter the client ID provided by your Account Manager.
- Click Submit. The fields will automatically populate.
- Make a note of your Default Deployment ID and send it to your Account Manager.
- In the Tool Status section, select Approved.
- In the User Fields to Send section, select the Role in Course, Name, and Email Address check boxes.
- In the Allow grade service access section, select No.
- In the Allow Membership Service Access section, select No.
- In the Show User Acknowledgment Message section, select No.
- Click Submit.
- Click the More Options button > Manage Placements.
- Click Create Placement.
- Enter the information as shown below.
- Label: SmartSpeaker
- Handle: SmartSpeaker
- Availability: Yes
- In the Type section, select Course tool and the Allow student access check box.
- Based on your zone, enter one of the Target Link URI.

- Enter the Tool Provider Custom Parameters below.

- Click Submit. Once your Account Manager has entered your Deployment ID, the SmartSpeaker integration for Blackboard Ultra LTI 1.3 will be complete.
Adding SmartSpeaker to a Course
Once you have added SmartSpeaker to Blackboard, you can add the SmartSpeaker LTI link to specific courses.
- Log in to Blackboard Ultra as an Admin or Instructor and select your course.
- In the Details and Actions section, select Book & Tools.
- Locate SmartSpeaker.
Note: If you cannot locate SmartSpeaker, the institution admin may need to change the tool availability to ensure SmartSpeaker is available. - Click the + button to add SmartSpeaker to the course's Content page.
