Resolving WCAG 2.1 Accessibility Issues - PDF - The Document Is Encrypted

Encrypted documents require a password to access. Accessible formats can't be generated from encrypted documents. To remove the password, you must be the creator of the file. If you're not the creator of the file, contact the creator to resolve the issue. See more information on the WCAG Guideline: 1.3.1 Info and Relationships.

The Document Is Encrypted

  1. For Adobe Acrobat Pro users, open the PDF and select All tools.
  2. Click Protect a PDF.
    Protect a PDF is highlighted in the All tools panel in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  3. Under Advanced Options, click Remove security.
    Under Advanced Options, the Remove security button is highlighted.
  4. Enter your password, then click OK.
    The Password dialog is open, and the password field and OK button are highlighted.
  5. Once you're finished, save the document.
