The first heading in a document should be classified as the Heading Level 1. Having correctly classified headings improves the structure and readability of the document. Please note that there are two ways to resolve Heading Structure issues for PDF. If you have exported your PDF from another file format, it’s best to resolve the issue in the original format before exporting it. You can also resolve the issue directly in the PDF file using Adobe Acrobat Pro.
The Document Heading Structure Does Not Start at 1
- For Adobe Acrobat Pro users, navigate to View, Show/Hide, Navigation Panes, Accessibility tags.
- Right-click on the first heading tag in your document and select Properties.
- Change the Tag Type to Heading Level 1.
